Last Tuesday afternoon, April 22nd, the girls and I headed to the airport to pick up Devin's parents, his little brother Matt and Matt's wife Cami. Their stay lasted 1 full week, and was jam-packed with entertainment from sun up to past sun down every day!
The girls were beside themselves with excitement when they all loaded into or van from the airport.
And Emily took Grandma straight to her dollhouse where they played for over an hour.
Their first night we ate classic Chicago style hot dogs before going to a cubs game.
Cozy with Grandma.
Shortly after this picture was taken, Emily fell asleep for the remainder of the game.
The next morning (Wednesday) the 4 of them left for a quick road trip to Kirtland, Ohio to see the church history sites there. They stayed Wednesday night and came back to our house Thursday night. We didn't go because Devin had work and was on call.
Thursday night when they got back, Emily broke out the dress up stuff, and Grandpa participated.
We had a low key Friday morning and early afternoon, as we waited for Devin to get off work. Cami and I went for a nice long run on one of my favorite routes. It was bliss running with someone, and without the double wide stroller. It felt so much better running outside than on my treadmill.
In the middle of the afternoon we picked Devin up from his clinic and headed downtown for an architectural boat tour. The girls did great, and loved the speed boat ride on Lake Michigan at the end of the tour.
We walked along the Lake Shore biking/running path on our way from Navy Pier to the John Hancock building. The day was absolutely gorgeous. We could not have asked for better weather!
The girls skipped their naps every day that the family was with us, and we kept them up way past bedtime every night. They were such good little girls and were along for the ride wherever we went.
Here they are quietly coloring together while we waited for our pizza.
After dinner we took Matt and Cami up to the top floor of the John Hancock building, while Mom and Dad stayed in the lobby with the girls. They had both been to the top on previous visits.
We walked Michigan Avenue and ended at the Bean.
Emily asleep on Matt Friday night when we got home.
Emily was so excited to get a nail ring from the blacksmith shop.
We waited outside while the rest of the group toured the print shop.
Claire with the Sister missionaries
Claire conked out during the movie we saw at the Visitor's Center before we hit up the all you can eat buffet at Hotel Nauvoo. Richard stayed in the car with her so she could have a quick power nap.
It rained that night, and the temple against the sky backdrop was so beautiful!
Sunday morning we went to church and then took some photos in front of the temple before walking around Old Nauvoo a little more.
In front of the Red Brick Store. The top floor of this building is where the Relief Society was organized!
Then we drove to Carthage Jail, where the Prophet Joseph Smith was murdered in 1844.
The very room where Joseph and Hyrum Smith were killed.
The next day, Monday, we all took turns going to the temple, so someone was always with the girls. Then we got on the road to come back to our house.
Claire bear couldn't keep her eyes open any longer!
We played games one last time Monday night. Lots of laughs!
Tuesday morning was spent packing everyone up, and we all exercised after a long weekend of eating junk and sitting in the car a lot! Cami and I went for another long run outside, and then it was time to take them to the airport. Such a fn, fun time having them with us. We are going through withdrawals!
